August 29th is quite an important date for Toyota Motorsport GmbH. Care to venture a guess as to why? We here at Mark Toyota will simply tell you, rather than making you guess all day. The Japanese automaker's European based racing team will be putting their new EV racecar to the ultimate test at the legendary Nüreburgring Nordschleife.

What makes this so special? Toyota is claiming that their new EV racer is capable of besting the track's impressive 9:01:338 EV lap record in an effort to show fans that green racing can be every bit as exciting as traditional motorosports. Toyota already claims that they EV racer has bested the old record holder's performance, and now their high-performance, battery-powered, two-seat EV will certainly turn out a large crowd to see if Toyota is ready to make it official.

If we are to believe what we've been told, than Toyota Motorsport GmbH's incredible green racer can reach a top speed of 162 miles per hour. What's more impressive is that it can also rocket from zero to 60 miles per hour in under four seconds. Perhaps what's most telling, however, is that Ludwig Zeller, General Manager Electrics and Electronics, Toyota Motorsport GmbH is confident the new green machine will reset the benchmark.

"[Toyota Motorsport GmbH] TMG has developed a very robust and reliable electrical powertrain, which has been proven in several products already," explains Zeller. "We have built up a tremendous amount of knowledge about such high-performance powertrains, particularly battery management systems and vehicle control units, during our development programmes. Our lap record attempt brings together this knowledge and it should clearly show the great potential for high-performance electric powertrains."1
