In an effort to promote youth education, increase high school graduation rates throughout the country, and prepare students for the next step in their academic career, Toyota has partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in a new initiative called "D2D - Diplomas to Degrees." The program provides teens with essential resources that they'll need to excel in the classroom, explore post-graduation options, and foster relationships with mentors.
And what roles does Toyota play in all of this? The Japanese automaker has committed to funding the project with a $1.5 million grant over three years to help provide tools, resources and support. The company made the announcement at a joint event on the campus of Bowie State University. More than 150 local teen and other Boys & Girls Clubs of America representatives were on hand, as the two companies outlined plans and stressed their importance.
One of the biggest points stressed at the event is that students who fail to graduate high school and even those who do but lack the necessary preparation for a postsecondary education are substantially less likely to be able to take the various social and economic issues that are offered in this country. It's only one of the many reasons why Toyota has been so compelled to sponsor Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the "D2D - Diplomas to Degrees" project in the first place, and one issues that the non-profit will be better equipped to handle with their support.
