Toyota Prius drivers probably purchased their Hybrid for many different reasons, but one common reason is the gas mileage rated at fifty-one miles per gallon in the city and 48-mpg for highway. One bit of information owners of the gas-electric Prius may not have known when selecting this model is that the car is also resistant to auto theft.
Interested in finding out why? Let Mark Toyota explain. Recently, the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) directed a study and had some interesting finding. The Toyota Prius is one of the least likely vehicles to be stolen. Other car models average a theft ratio of 1 in 78 cars while Prius was only 1 in 606.
What discourages auto thieves from snagging the gas-electric Prius? The Prius has a large amount of complex parts that are not easily swappable in other vehicles. As Frank Scafidi, a spokesman for the National Insurance Crime Bureau explains that thieves normally steal cars that have highly sought out parts in the underground parts market. 1
Simply, parts that can be easily mixed and matched between car brands have a higher resale value than parts that are specific to only one car. The hybrid-specific batteries, motors, and other gas-electric underpinnings simply aren't attractive to this illegal market. So any gas-electric car driver should be less worried about their car being stolen.
Of course, this doesn't mean that if you own a Prius you shouldn't be vigilant about your car's security. For plenty of tips on how to keep your new Toyota vehicle safe from those with sticky fingers, come speak with us at 1765 Park Avenue, Plover, WI 54467 at your earliest convenience.
