Jay Leno is a lucky man and we at Mark Toyota are a bit jealous of his latest accomplishment. Some of you may not know that he's not only the host of the The Tonight Show but he also has a web series called Jay Leno's Garage. As part of his show, Jay gets to drive all the latest and greatest cars, along with some classics, including a replica of the first Toyota ever made.
Jay recently headed to Japan to get a chance to drive this rare vehicle. In fact, it is so rare that, technically, the model doesn't exist. The car was originally called the Toyota AA and only three concepts were manufactured. One was buried with Kiichiro Toyoda's father. And we're not quite sure what happened to the other two.
Jay got to drive the replica of the 1936 Toyota AA put together by the Japanese automaker. The car was rebuilt with parts from that era and is built on a ladder chassis. It is powered by a six cylinder engine. Production models of the Toyota AA halted in 1943.
In the replica that Leno drove, he mentioned that it was a good driving experience, considering all original Toyota parts from that the 1930's were used. He also thought that the car had a luxury feel, since Toyota did not miss any details when re-creating the replica. Leno is one of the lucky few to have had the opportunity to drive the replica, let alone be able to film it.
You may not find a 1936 Toyota AA on our lot at 1765 Park Avenue, Plover, WI 54467, but if you're looking for the Toyota Corolla or Highlander stop in to Mark Toyota. You can visit our location during regular business hours or contact us online anytime. We're always happy to answer any questions you might have, and can set up a test drive in a new Toyota at your convenience.
