Just kidding. We know now that this was a joke, the press release making its appearance on the notoriously prankified April 1st, but the automaker had us all going for a while! Toyota vehicles make quite a ruckus whether they're in car or truck racing, such as NASCAR, but professional van racing? It's such a crazy idea, maybe we should have picked up on the joke sooner.

The press release went so far as to have full model renderings of the decked-out Toyota Proace utility van, complete with racing decals and product badging, as well as some very convincing quotes. Championship spokesman Gideon "Gig" Gleman stated, "The Touring Van Championship is just the kind of cost-conscious racing Britain needs."1

Toyota themselves added that the Proace would be racing at the Nürburgring, Germany's toughest racing track, competing in the annual Lastkraftwagenpokal meeting. If that doesn't convince you of the ridiculousness of the joke, then nothing will.

We got a good chuckle out of the story and we hope you did as well. If you're in the market for a van yourself, however, consider the Toyota Sienna. Featuring spacious seating for seven, a hefty V-6 engine offering 266 horsepower, and achieving 25 miles per gallon on the highway, it's a wonderful choice for families of all sizes.
