Jalopnik writer Jason Torchinsky has a pretty nice gig going for him. Not that we don't love our jobs and our showroom of fine new or used Scions here at good old Mark Toyota. But having an automaker fly you across the country and put you up in a Vegas hotel just so you can drive their new car that hasn't even hit the public yet? Yeah, that's definitely what we'd call a pretty nice gig.
So after a year of traveling the globe and getting behind the wheel, all in the name of auto blogging, Torchinsky went ahead and compiled a list of the best and worst cars he drove in 2012. Six cars made the list (two "Worsts" and four "Bests"), one of which was our very own 2013 Scion FR-S, rivaling the likes of a 1974 Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV and a vintage Citrƶen SM.
Now, you can feel free to read about his entire revelatory experience with the FR-S at your own leisure, because if we started listing memorable quotes, we'd be plagiarizing the whole article. However, there is one gem that sums his thoughts up nicely. "This car is just a blast to drive," says Torchinsky. "It's a traditional sports car with a nice flat-four with a low, low center of gravity, and it's pretty much impossible not to have a good time in it."1 And with its 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine that cranks out 200 HP and 151 LB.-FT of torque, the enthusiasm is well-warranted.
Still not convinced? Never even heard of Jalopnik, let alone this Torchinsky fellow? Then by all means, folks, don't take his word for it and test drive one for yourself down here at 1765 Park Ave. in Plover, WI 54467. And if the FR-S isn't your style, there's always the 2013 Scion tC and the 2013 Scion xD for you take for a spin.
