Want a car that proactively looks for and avoids accidents? How about one that drives you to work? Or specialized technology to make driving with a disability easier?

To keep on the cutting edge of new technologies in safety, accessibility, and efficiency, Toyota announced this month the establishment of a new company: Toyota Research Institute Inc. (TRI).

The primary goals of TRI, located in Silicon Valley near Stanford University, will be the development of artificial intelligence and robotics. We're hoping in a few years, they'll give the world something like Knight Rider-- and that may not be far off the truth.

We've already got voice-command features in cars, and in pursuit of safer ways to drive, self-driving cars will soon be hitting the streets. Perhaps in five years or so, we'll have a talking, self-driving Toyota Camry featured in our new inventory.
