Denny Hamlin and Toyota both just made history at Daytona 500.
Toyota has been competing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series since 2007, and the Toyota Camry has won 80 events in that time. Hamlin's first-place victory in February 2016 would mark his and Toyota's first win at the prestigious Daytona 500.
"It’s the biggest race of my life," Hamlin said, "this is the pinnacle of our sport and I’m just proud to be here."
Hamlin made history in another way, with the closest finish in Daytona 500's 58-year history. His win was eked out 0.01 seconds ahead of the next car -- also a Toyota Camry competing on team Joe Gibbs Racing. Third place was taken by another Joe Gibbs Racing Camry.
"This was a team victory," Hamlin proudly said of the 1-2-3 finish. "This wouldn’t be possible if this wasn't Toyotas sticking together all race long. We were able to get up, capture our track position. This is amazing for Toyota."
