According to "Top 300 Organizations Granted U.S. Patents in 2016," a recently-released report from the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO), Toyota was awarded 1,540 United States patents in 2016 -- more than any other car manufacturer. Not only that, but Toyota was the only auto maker to earn a place in the top 20 patent awardees -- along with other innovative companies such as IBM, Microsoft, Apple and Google.
