You will likely notice if your battery is getting weak. However, you should test your battery regularly regardless of whether you notice that something is wrong with it. Proactively testing your battery can potentially stop it from failing. You will need to turn your headlights on without starting your car. Allow them to stay on for 10 to 15 minutes. Start your car and see how bright the headlights are. If the headlights are dim, then you most likely need a new battery.

You can also check your battery for corrosion. An old toothbrush and baking soda can be used to clean your batteries. However, if your battery is severely corroded, then you likely need to get a new one. You should also listen for clicks while driving because this can reveal a battery problem.
